# Purchase Phone Numbers

> Search for and purchase phone numbers for your messaging campaigns.

Phone numbers are required for sending SMS and MMS messages through 10DLC and toll-free campaigns.

## Search available numbers

Find numbers that match your requirements with [`POST /phone-numbers/search`](/api-reference/phone-numbers/search).

### Filters

* **Location**: Find numbers in specific regions
* **Digits**: Match specific digits in the number
* **Features**: Filter by features such as SMS, MMS, voice, etc.
* **Number type**: Choose between local and toll-free

## Purchase numbers

Once you've found suitable numbers, buy them through [`POST /phone-numbers/buy`](/api-reference/phone-numbers/buy).

* **Processing time**: Immediate
* **Status check**: [`GET /status/phone-number/{phoneNumber}`](/api-reference/status/phone-number)

## Best practices

* Purchase multiple numbers for high-volume campaigns to distribute load
* Keep spare numbers ready for quick scaling
* Monitor number health and reputation regularly
* Rotate numbers periodically for long-running campaigns
